The revival playbook
How to revive a ghosted deal
Silence is not a no. It is an unfinished sentence. Reviving it is a craft with an order of operations, and skipping the first step is why most attempts fail.
Step one: diagnose before you type
Reread the entire thread as if you were a third party hired to find the moment it turned. Where did the energy drop? What question was asked and never quite answered? What did they say in the last message that was politer than everything before it? Rising politeness is the classic tell: warmth going up while commitment goes down means a decision was made and not shared.
From that read, name one hypothesis: the specific fear or friction that stopped them. One. A message aimed at two objections hits neither.
Step two: the reopening message
The reopening message has three jobs and a strict word budget. Job one: demonstrate you understood something they never said, which instantly separates you from every checking-in email in their inbox. Job two: reduce the risk your hypothesis points at, concretely. Job three: offer a next step so small it is easier to accept than to ignore.
- Keep it under 120 words. Ghosts do not read essays.
- No guilt, no references to being ignored, no just following up.
- One idea, one question, one easy yes.
- Send it from your own address, in your own voice, on a weekday morning.
Step three: the cadence, if silence continues
One message rarely revives a cold deal. A sequence does, if every touch takes a different angle: risk reduction, then social proof, then a case for acting now, then value reframing, then the respectful pre-close, and eventually the professional goodbye that paradoxically produces more replies than any other message. The full spacing science is in the cadence guide.
When to stop
A deal marked lost with grace can come back in a quarter. A deal chased past dignity never does. The professional goodbye, brief, warm, door explicitly open, is not surrender. It is the last move of this round and the first move of the next one.
Stop letting deals die quietly.
Paste one stalled thread. Get the diagnosis, the hidden objection, and the follow-up an elite closer would send.
